Opening hours and admission

Opening hours: every Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM – 5 PM

Admission to the whole museum is free of charge, but registration at the desk upon entering is required.

Opening hours
The museum is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM until 5 PM. Admission to the museum is free of charge. We kindly ask visitors to report to the reception desk upon arrival.

Public Holidays
The museum is closed on Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December), New Year’s Day (1 January), King’s Day (27 April), Liberation Day (5 May), Easter Monday, and Whit Monday. On New Year’s Eve (31 December), the museum is open until 3:30 PM.

Maintenance Work
From 6 to 30 August, the ramp in the main hall will be painted. To protect the 2.000-year-old Roman ship, it will be temporarily covered. The display cases containing the ship’s finds will also not be visible during this period. The rest of the museum, including the exhibition 3.000 Years of Living and Working and the Wood Chamber, will remain open as usual.

Accessibility
Castellum Hoge Woerd is largely accessible to all visitors. An elevator is available in both the entrance hall and the main hall. Reserved parking spaces are located near the main entrance, and accessible toilets are available throughout the building. The platform of the temporary exhibition can only be reached via a few steps. The ramp in the main hall is relatively steep and may be less comfortable for visitors using a wheelchair or walker. The intermediate doors on the ramparts are relatively heavy to open.

Group visits
Museum Hoge Woerd organises many hundreds of guided tours and school visits each year. To ensure an optimal museum experience and/or guided tour, we kindly request that all groups of 15 or more people register in advance by sending an email to museum@castellumhogewoerd.nl. The museum charges a modest fee for group tours and school visits to cover the cost of tour guides/attendants and materials.

Donations
Thanks to the dedication of many volunteers, admission to the museum’s permanent exhibitions is free of charge. Donations help us preserve the museum and its unique collections for future generations. You can make a voluntary contribution at the reception desk or donate online via the Support the Museum page.

Guided Tours
Guided tours are available exclusively through Museum Hoge Woerd’s own guides. Please see the Guided Tours page for available options. It is not permitted to provide your own tours in the museum.

Children and supervision
The museum features many interactive exhibits, especially in the exhibition 3,000 Years of Living and Working. Children aged 16 and under may only visit the museum when accompanied by an adult, except during organised educational activities. Adult supervision is also recommended in the Windows on the Fort exhibition and on the fort ramparts.

Dogs
Dogs are welcome only in the courtyard and the Castellum Café. Dogs must be kept on a leash and accompanied by an adult. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the museum and Castellum Hoge Woerd.
